Another deal was a round-trip flight to the Bahamas, starting at $232. Four nights in New Orleans from $337 with a French Quarter Marriott (the AC Hotel Bourbon) plus flights on Spirit was also tempting. It included seven nights on Hvar Island with a 4-star beach resort and flights, stating at $929. One offer was a 7-night party in Croatia. The TravelPirates site presents some interesting deals. While many sites offer search and booking, it’s the ‘hand-picked’ deals that keep customers coming back to TravelPirates. In a sense, the big online travel agencies (OTAs) are competitors, yet TravelPirates shows packages from major providers like Expedia, Cheap Tickets, and Priceline (as well as 140 vacation packagers and 700,000 hotels) are shown for click-through for booking. One of the largest travel portals in Europe, the parent HolidayPirates site boasts 9 million Facebook fans and 10 million app downloads. Although TravelPirates is not a travel agency offering personalized service, this level of curation can be helpful for the prospective traveler standing under a waterfall of thousands of potential destinations and deals. TravelPirates, based in Boston (the parent company, HolidayPirates, is based in Berlin), boasts a team of “Deal Hunters” who find, aggregate and present what they consider the best deals on flights, hotels, and vacation packages. So why TravelPirates? The short answer is the buzzword of the moment, curation.
