I hope it holds up because I’d just as soon keep the cover as it is. Even though the cover is an “imitation leather,” it’s really nice. The supplemental articles are good- especially accessible for the beginner and a refreshing return to the basics for the seasoned bible reader. I enjoy having the catechism references and space for notes. The only reason I would have bothered with an exchange, really, is because of how much I paid for the bible.Īnyway, it’s still a wonderful bible. Unfortunately, I should have inspected it more thoroughly when I unpacked it: I missed the small tears near the bottom of several pages that obscure some words in the text in Judges (I think they were made by the ribbon markers in the packing process, perhaps), but by the time I realized it, I had already written something in the back of the bible so felt it was too late to return it for an exchange. It’s a beautiful edition with one of my favorite translations. I purchased the imitation leather edition. These three introductory essays were granted an imprimatur by Bishop Kevin Rhoades of Fort Wayne-South Bend, Indiana. At the beginning of the Bible, there is the original introduction to the 1966 RSV-CE, followed by an Overview of the Bible by John Bergsma, Introduction to the Old Testament by Anthony Pagliarini, and Introduction to the New Testament by Sarah Christmyer. The pages are simple and unadorned, and the additional essays which are included are very short (a few pages for each essay). I don’t get tired of holding it as quickly as I do with the New Oxford Annotated Bible, which I usually read on a desk or a bookstand. This is the only available wide-margin Bible to feature the highly-regarded New Revised Standard Version translation, the preferred. It feels quite comfortable to hold in my hands for reading. The NRSV Notetakers Bible offers the perfect format for students of the Bible who wish to make their own notes-whether scholarly notations or spiritual insights-rather than rely on the words of others. It is definitely larger than the average Bible designed for portability (I measured the dimensions at 6 7/16 X 9 7/16 inches), but it doesn’t feel heavy to me. The proportions of this Bible are also very good in my view. "synopsis" may belong to another edition of this title. The color of the blue clothbound cover looks much lighter in this photo (with natural sunlight shining on the Bible) than it is in real life. The NRSV Notetaker's Bible is available in hardcover as well as in deluxe cloth and bonded leather, ideal for presentations and gift giving. Its open margins are a perfect match for your open mind. So whether you're a student or professor, pastor or lay person, The NRSV Notetaker's Bible will fit your Bible study needs. In addition, this is the only available wide-margin Bible to feature the highly-regarded New Revised Standard Version translation, the preferred translation in most academic settings, as well as many churches and homes. For more expansive thoughts, you can turn to the back of the Bible for additional ruled pages. Moreover, we've added rules make it even easier to keep on track. And because the text is a single column, your notes are always right beside the relevant passage. In The NRSV Notetaker's Bible, we've eliminated those frustrations by giving you an extra-wide, two-inch outside margin. And writing in the gutter is nearly impossible. Some wide-margin Bibles have only slightly larger margins on both sides of the page. The Notetaker's Bible offers the perfect format for students of the Bible who wish to make their own notes-whether scholarly notations or spiritual insights-rather than rely on the words of others.
